Maria Fletcher: In Bloom

Welcome to the priority viewing for In Bloom, Maria's first solo exhibition with Air Contemporary.  This will be Maria's largest body of new work to date, comprising a variety of sizes, all encapsulating her coveted vision for bold and uplifting depictions of florals, plants and pattern.  The first week of this exhibition coincides with this year's Chelsea Flower Show. 

Maria lives and works in Suffolk.  Drawing inspiration from The Scottish Colourists, her joyful still lifes capture the emotional lift that flowers evoke, which she then mixes with a modern twist.  She juxtaposes traditional blooms with contemporary ceramics and fabrics to conjure a maximalist feast for the eyes.  She is also a tutor of Graphic Design at Norwich School of Art, which explains her natural instinct to place colour and pattern so brilliantly together.
