On a leafy Hampton Court street sits a beautiful Victorian townhouse, with something quite unexpected behind its baby pink front door. Down in the basement, separated by just a tiny corridor are two contrasting artist studios. Turn left and you'll find Karen Nicol's tresure trove - an array of fabrics, yarns and flea market finds which Karen remarkably turns into the most breathtaking creations. Tattooed embroidered monkeys, heat pressed lobsters and beautifully stitched floral polar bears. Then opposite into the brilliantly whimsical realm of Peter Clark. An entire wall of floor to ceiling drawers contain found papers collected over decades, meticulously catalogued into subjects. In the centre sit plan chests which Peter uses as the surface to draw and then overlay his papers to bring his collage creations to life. Widely recognised for his witty and charming works of dogs, his subjects span other numerous animals as well as clothes, cars and family crests.
Karen and Peter are both completely unique and established in their own right, but their work sings together in a completely natural way. This is art with personality, soul and unity - and is certainly a show not to be missed.
